A native Vermonter, Bruce received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Communications from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He began his career as staff photographer at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Bruce returned to Vermont as the photographer for the Department of Surgery at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. In 1981 he began Champlain Color Corporation, a color separation and photography business and continued producing color work until 1995. From 1997 until 2002 he was the manager of the Imaging and Digital Services Departments at Capital City Press in Barre, Vermont which produced medical and scientific journals. Presently he is now working at The Vermont Teddy Bear Company in Shelburne.

Bruce likes to work with micro and macro images of natural subjects with attention to very fine detail and has dedicated his career to reproducing images as close to reality as possible to draw out their inherent beauty, modifying his equipment where necessary to achieve optimal results. Most recently Bruce has done an intense study of Vermont snowflakes and has photo-micrographed many beautiful specimens during these past winters
